module 3 – Understanding Body Image in Aesthetic Medicine

About Course

Understanding Body Image in Aesthetic Medicine
Self-Paced eLearning Module

Understanding body image is an important part of psychologically informed aesthetic practice. This module explores the psychological, social, biological, and cultural factors that shape body image throughout the lifespan. Participants will examine current appearance ideals, beauty myths, the influence of social media, and the prevalence and consequences of dissatisfaction with appearance.

The module also explores factors associated with vulnerability to appearance concerns and considers how greater understanding of body image can inform consultation practice. Through a clinical case study and opportunities for reflection, participants will consider how psychologically informed consultation practice can support safe, ethical, and patient-centred care.
